Spring
Deadspot
As the days grow longer and the temperatures get warmer in the spring,
you may notice some unusual spots in your lawn that do not green up.
If you have some “dead” looking patches in your lawn this
year, there is a disease problem that may be of concern to you. In general,
once these spots appear in the spring, the damage has already been done.
Spring dead spot usually appears in circular patches 12” in diameter
or less, primarily in Bermuda and Zoysia grasses. These spots are caused
by a fungus in the soil and at this time, no effective chemical control
exists. These spots will appear again next year, but the good news is
that as the weather warms each spring, the spots will fill back in.
We make every effort to scout lawns for insect and disease problems
to prevent damage from these pests if at all possible. If you have
noticed thin areas in your lawn any time during the year, please
let us know so we can check on it for you.
