Nutgrass
Occasionally, we encounter weeds that are considered difficult to control
or even noxious. Nutgrass and Virginia buttonweed are perhaps the two
biggest “difficult to control” weeds. Neither of these weeds
are preventable with a pre-emergent, meaning they can return year after
year and are not preventable. They can be managed, however. Often, areas
of your lawn that stay overly wet or have a drainage problem will be
the first area that you will see these two particular weeds.
In general, if we spot a small patch of these weeds in your lawn we can
often make a spot application to manage them. Often times, though, additional
treatments beyond our normal service may be required to effectively manage
these weeds. Our technicians will consult with you if that is the case.
Wild onions, wild garlic and fescue also fit into this category of weeds
that are difficult to control.
